The Rotary Club of Schaumburg A.M. and Rotary District 6440 recently awarded $6,500 in vocational scholarships to two deserving individuals who either live or work within Schaumburg Township.

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary’s scholarship program is need based and designed to provide educational assistance to full-time students who are preparing for post-secondary vocational or technical careers that require less than a four-year degree (Associate Degree or equivalent certification program) at an accredited school.

From L to R – Rotarian Gary Bublitz, Vocational Service Director Jim McKenzie, scholarship winners Alexis Woodard and Chad Falk and Rotarian Scott Zambo.

Jim McKenzie, club vocational service director, along with committee members Gary Bublitz and Scott Zambo reviewed candidate applications, conducted personal interviews and selected scholarship recipients at the club level

Alexis Woodard and Chad Falk each won club level scholarships. Both plan to attend Palatine’s Harper College where they will respectively enroll in the nursing and HVAC/R training programs.  These occupations are in demand with job opportunities that are expected to grow well into the future.

Woodard and Falk then advanced forward to the Rotary District 6440 scholarship competition where each won individual awards at that level, thus increasing the total amount of funds to be used to support their educational pursuits.  McKenzie stated that “these scholarships open the door to better career opportunities and improved earnings potential” for both individuals.

Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” best conveys the humanitarian spirit of the organization and encourages its members to volunteer their time and talent to support their community and make a difference in the lives of others.
