Schaumburg AM Rotary is launching a series called “Volunteer Member Spotlight of the Month” that features one of our club members who makes a difference in our communities.

Our members are people who wear many hats in their daily lives and who apply Rotary values in all that they do.

November's member spotlight features Sharon Perry.

Q.  How long have you been a member of Schaumburg AM Rotary Club & what is your current role?
A.  I have been a member for 28 years and for the last 10 years have served as the club’s Public Image Chair and Website Coordinator.

Q.  What do you like about your role as Public Image Chair?
A.  Someone needed to tell the story of the club’s activities and contributions that make a difference in our community, so I challenged myself to do this even though I had no prior experience in this area.

Q.  Why did you join Rotary?
A.  I come from a small rural community.  Having lived in Schaumburg and the sprawling Northwest suburbs for 40 years I found that I wanted to be more connected to the community that I have called home since 1978.

Q.  What do you enjoy most about being a member of Schaumburg AM Rotary Club?
A.  The opportunity to give back and improve our community in addition to supporting education and leadership development opportunities for young people.

Q.  What is your favorite Rotary story?
A.  Some years ago, I followed a now retired Chicago based a cappella group known as Ac Rock who sang classic rock ‘n roll favorites during summer outdoor concerts and wondered how I could collaborate with them in some fashion.  My dream came true when our club agreed to hire Ac Rock to assist us with a Valentine’s Day dinner dance fundraiser that benefited our community.  The evening featured both live and silent auctions in addition to entertainment provided by Ac Rock, who also served as event emcee and auctioneer.

Q.  How has Rotary helped impact your life?
A.  Put simply, Rotary is a group of people who believe in helping others and who want to make a difference both locally and beyond. Being a Rotarian has heightened my awareness of at-risk individuals, children and families dealing with problems related to conflict, poverty, hunger, literacy, disease and more.  It has also helped me come to understand and appreciate that I have been abundantly blessed.

FUN FACT!
Sharon wears many hats in life and brings so many wonderful skills and talents to Schaumburg AM Rotary Club.  She is currently a farmland owner involved in row crop production agriculture and is also a retired marketing administrative professional with experience in marketing communications and meeting/event planning.  In addition, Sharon serves as treasurer for two separate but related multi-family housing associations where she lives.

Thanks for all you do Sharon – you are simply amazing and we are so lucky to have you as a volunteer in our service club.
