At its June 22nd Community Grant Awards Breakfast the Schaumburg AM Rotary Club Foundation awarded a combined total of more than $5,000 to the following organizations – Child’s Voice, Feed My Starving Children, Boy Scout Troop 193 and the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry.
 
Child’s Voice is a listening and spoken language program for children affected by hearing loss, that empowers them to be successful academically and socially, by optimizing their listening, speaking and thinking skills through the use of hearing assistive technology and devices such as cochlear implants and hearing aids.
 
Feed My Starving Children empowers volunteers to pack meals for the malnourished in more than 70 countries around the world.
 
The club has been the charter partner/organization for Schaumburg based Boy Scout Troop 193 since 1998.  Currently the troop meets at Collins Elementary School.  Scouting provides a program for young people that builds character and focuses on leadership development, good citizenship and personal fitness by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun.
 
Club members make monthly out-of-pocket monetary donations for the benefit of the Schaumburg Twp. Food Pantry who provides assistance to residents in need in Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg and Streamwood.
 
In addition to these organizations this club also provided funding and/or its members volunteered their time in support of the following activities during the 15/16 Rotary year -
  • Need based vocational scholarship award selection including applications review and candidate interviews. Through the combined efforts of this club and Rotary District 6440, two local individuals received a total of $6,500 that will be applied towards their educational/vocational training at Harper College.
  • Community Memorial Day Observance hosted by Schaumburg & Hoffman Estates
  • Student sponsorship at a RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) conference held at Camp Edwards in East Troy, WI
  • Twp HS District 211 Business Incubator Start-Up educational program designed to expose students to various aspects of being a small business owner/entrepreneur that runs the gamut from creating a new product or service, market research and business plan development to learning about various aspects of running a small business
  • Celebrate Reading & Writing Family Literacy Night at Winston Churchill Elementary School
  • Alfred Campanelli YMCA Super Santa Program
  • Holiday party sponsor for The Children’s Advocacy Center of North & Northwest Cook County
  • Contributed to The Rotary Foundation’s major initiative “End Polio Now” campaign
  • Donated and distributed new winter coats to students from low income, high risk families who attend the Marletta Darnall Schaumburg Child & Family Center, a Children’s Home + Aid facility.
  • Sponsor of the Interact Club of Robert Frost Jr. High School
Since its inception in 1990 Schaumburg AM Rotary has donated more than $475,000 to local, regional and international programs and organizations whose mission and activities supports Rotary’s Six Areas of Focus.
